What is Accent Lighting?

Different Kinds of Accent Lighting:

LED Wall Sconces –  These fixtures are also called wall accent lighting as they can be easily fixed on the wall. Mainly, wall sconces are used to direct light upwards. But relying on their design, it can glow light down, all around, or out. Sconces are available in various sizes, colors, materials, and shapes. With so many accent wall lighting options, wall sconces are fit to illuminate your home perfectly.

LED Track lighting

As the name suggests, track lights have bulbs placed on a track. You don’t need to wire every bulb as the track h as electrical conductors. The track lights are mounted to the ceiling to offer direct downlight on the bookshelf, wall of art, or over a kitchen counter.

LED Recessed lighting

These lights are installed on the ceiling line, also called ceiling lights. Due to their placement position, besides trim and baffles, most of the fixture is invisible. The trim is the plastic or metal circle that drives near the recessed light while the baffle is under the recessed can where the bulb sits.

Hidden fixtures

These are mainly underneath something or recessed behind. These fixtures are not counted as recessed lighting. They can work as nightlights under your cabinets or frame your bathroom mirror. These are LED strip lights that are smartly folded out into hidden space.

How to Plan for Accent Lighting?

With every element in its place, you can apparently see the shadows and home’s art which can use a shine of brightness. Follow these 5 steps for better planning:

1. Identify impactful artwork or unique features

Do you have family photos that you want to highlight? You can place wall sconces that directly throw light to focus on the features.

2. Find a blank canvas

Consider hallways as your blank canvas, which are mainly overlooked, leading to a boring and blank walkway. Use accent lighting fixtures to brighten up your powder room, empty stairwell, and entryway. It can also be installed to enhance the decor as it is an artistic fixture.

3. Consider the mood

Lighting fixtures should complement or define the mood of the space. With accent lighting, you can add a decorative touch to your home and improve the mood.

4. Size up your space

Accent lighting can make your place appear larger. By using upward and downward light, the height of the room looks expanding while highlighting the wall texture. In addition, these lighting fixtures can illuminate your outdoor and interior spaces.

5. Fill the voids

Pendants and chandeliers offer brighter lighting in a room, but the lighting can’t reach all the crevasses and corners.
