Flickering is one of the irritating things that everyone wants to fix as soon as possible, so here is a quick list of why your light might be crashing. 

It’s beneficial to know that LEDs are designed to function like computers. 

If the on/off cycle of the light is not working well, then the LED starts rapidly turning on and off, which is flickering. 

There are various reasons why the light is acting like this, but especially: 

Less than 50 Hz low frequency is the cause for LED bulbs flicker. Or it can be flickering due to incorrect or loose writing, defective bulb elements, or incompatible dimmer switches.

Having a short wire length in the lighting fixture can be a fault. It is better to have at least long wires for future needs. Loose wires adjoining the fixture, switch, and bulb can be the reasons for the impulsive flickery of your LED bulbs flicker.

Poor quality LED driver elements can not sustain the heat from the other internal parts. Suppose This can damage your light. 

Move from the lighting fixtures to your electrIcal board. If the wiring in the circuit breaker is loose, it can be a reason for light flickering. 

Power is one of the factors which can cause frequent flickering of the light.

For example, having fluorescent bulbs adjoined to the same circuit will make the LED lights flicker. This is because ordinary bulbs use 100% of the energy, leaving the minimum supply for the devices such as LED bulbs.  

Having a few incandescent lights will fastly pull all the energy leaving nothing for the LEDs, which makes them flicker due to less power source.

You can find the fault by just using a tester, touch a tester to one of the connections in your LED socket with the switch off.

If your home have dimmer switches, then the chances of flickering all house LEDs are high but otherwise, two main cause for flickering.  

Generally, the sudden voltage drop is the main cause of flickering bulbs in the house. 

As I mentioned, large or high-powered appliances on your house circuit can be the reason, as I mentioned — such as charging your electric car or running an electric fan.  

These applications require a huge power consumption, surge for the power when they first turn on, and the drastically reduced voltage can cause your lighting to adjust to the low power levels, making the LED lights flicker.  

Your home may not be causing any problem. Most of the neighboring properties share a transformer. If you have a person in your location who keeps all appliances turn on at once, they might be sucking the electrical system of whole neighborhoods. 

If the issue is not occurred by the high-demand appliances, then the lighting fixture in your house could be flickering because of the main power supply’s damage. 

Bad weather is also one of the reasons for creating this problem, it’s possible that a fallen tree or something like that has destroyed the nearby wires. If this is the case, call the power company for better assistance.

Office/Home safety is the first concern when working with troubleshooting and electrical components. IF you don’t have experience and knowledge in electrical work, It’s recommended to call a lighting expert to check everything.

Flickering lights can cause many issues and are dangerous if left unattended. As we know, loose wiring is the most common cause of flickering. Therefore, due to the high resistance to electricity flow, loose wires in systems are causing house fires. 

So you should not take it lightly. 

Due to flickering LEDs, many ailments can arise, such as tripped circuit breakers, blown fuses, or the burning smell of appliances due to power overload.

Ways to Prevent and Stop Bulb Flickering in the future? 

Let’s go with the process of troubleshooting. The bulb is the easiest elimination. 

So before going to the electrician, twist the LED bulb a little, making sure that it is not a loose bulb troubling you. 

And while you twist it, wipe the inside of any LED fixture’s socket and bulb, removing dust particles.  

Now, replace the LED bulb with any bulb, and if the new bulb works, you know the existing bulb was faulty.  

Or, if the bulb is good, then check for loose wiring in your electrical panel. If you can handle the electrical work, then give a nice twist to the screws in the panel. The screw needs to fit but overtight it. 

If the bulb is faulty, instead of throwing it out, maybe open the bulb and see if you want to fix it with DIY, as many of us do this. A swollen capacitor would be a common culprit. 

LED light is good if its capacitor is working. You can swipe this broken capacitor with a good-quality bulb that stands against higher temperatures. 

The well-functioning power supply unit is responsible for suitable working LEDs. 

A regular power supply on which LED’s run will change AC to DC current, and a better power supply will have stabilized current with steady current drivers. This ensures steady brightness. The latest modern LED bulbs have the best drivers installed on chips. 

Let’s move to common issues of nowadays, incompatibility of new LEDs fixtures with old dimmers, this is the clear way to avoid future flickering problems. However, the box of LED fixtures mentions the list of compatible dimmers. 

The effective and easy way to check compatibility is to put your bulb’s model no. and existing dimmer details online. 

Usually, new dimming switches can eliminate this issue, or you can also go for a 0v to 10v step dimmer.

Another excellent alternative is a smart LED bulb. There is no need for aged wiring or an old dimmer in this. Instead, it has a dimmable LED flashlight solution, among numerous features. 

Also, high-power appliances put an extra load on the circuit, resulting in surge wattage. Move them to separate circuits adjoined to the wall. 

If you really want to see the higher vantage point, get a voltmeter to check the running currently in your office and home to ensure it delivers sufficient voltage to run electronics and appliances every day. 

It is recommended that keep the voltage in the average house at 120V.
